Name: Solona Amell
Alias/Nickname: Sol (to friends), Commander (to subordinates), The Hero of Ferelden (to canonmates)
Age: N/A - Appears to be in her mid to late twenties.
Fandom: Dragon Age
Appearance:
Strengths:
Spirit Healer - Chosen by a benevolent spirit at a young age, Solona is watched over by an unknown guardian. Its talents are limited to those of the healing arts; it has the passive ability of healing whatever wounds Solona accumulates over time.
Arcane Knowledge - A lifetime in the Circle of Magi taught Solona many a thing. Her expertise has always been in the School of Creation, but she has quite the repertoire of Elemental magic as well. Both fire and ice spawn at her command, and the severity of the spell depends on her mood: You may find yourself face to face with a burst of flame or a shower of molten lava.
She also has the potential to learn from the other schools of magic: Primal (lightning and earth), Entropy (hexes), Arcane (telekinetic), and Spirit.
Weaknesses:
Alcoholism - Solona often drinks to drown her sorrows. It's the only way she knows how to relax.
The Taint - Grey Wardens always die young. They are doomed to transform into the very thing that they hunt: Darkspawn. Solona made the sacrifice for her people, taking upon the mantle of the Wardens in order to stop the Blight. Aside from her shortened lifespan, the taint also generates mind-numbing nightmares that plague her on and off.
History:
All children who show magical talents are taken from their families at a very young age. Those who escape are marked as apostates and slain like beasts. Solona, herself, was no such rebel. She was a mere apprentice, trapped inside a tower with several dozen just like her. Once a nobleman's daughter, her title meant nothing within the Circle of Magi. She grew up humble yet still possessed a certain regalness about her, a sense of leadership, if you will.
Her apprenticeship ended abruptly with the tidings of war. Shortly after her intiation into full magehood, Solona was conscripted by Duncan, a Grey Warden, who would train her to fight against the vicious Darkspawn that plagued her beloved home of Ferelden.
After many trials and hardships, Solona became renowned as the Hero of Ferelden for stopping the Blight.

This wasn't the Fade; Solona knew the Fade well. Only mages could walk the Fade in their full consciousness. This place, it felt like the real world, but eerily foreign at the same time. It wasn't the sort of foreign that made her squint and judge her surroundings; it was foreign enough to strike a chord in her heart: She was afraid.
Personality:
Solona is, at first, a conservative yet compassionate young woman. She has a refined quality about her, a sort of... elegance that isn't often found in the mages of her homeland.
Give her liquor, however, and her sense of humor becomes more vulgar than that of a sailor's.
Sample post:
This isn't right, her voice echoed in her mind, No, this is wrong. Completely different.
Years of frontline combat taught Solona to question everything, to watch out for the unexpected, and to be prepared for the worst. As little as she understood about her ethereal - yet tangible - surroundings, she took solace in the fact that this was nothing new. On the other side of the coin, she felt exasperated that once more, fate saw fit to toy with her. Never would she find a means to settle down by. Did her body ache for adventure, her heart yearn for challenge?
No, she did not ask for this at all. How rude.
Feeling rather antsy, Solona decided to take the first step on her new glorious journey. Glorious, because she'd find one way or another to enjoy it. Else she'd lose her mind. "Ah, but perhaps I have already gone mad." Without an audience to her words, she all but proved her own point. A soft yet forced laugh spilled from her lips. She had bit back too late, trapping her tongue between her teeth. In spite of her foolishness, someone up above had deemed her worthy of seeking the hero's title. Never had Solona known a more indecisive woman than Fate.
"A waterfall!" she exclaimed, suddenly lost in wonder. In all her travels, never had she found the time to stop and smell the roses, so to speak. One knew better than to take a whiff of the air looming over a battlefield. The smell of death rarely promoted the urge to continue marching; after the battle was fought and won, one lacked the incentive to keep moving.
Solona lifted a hand to her forehead. The vessels throbbing in her temples eased ever so slightly. "If they have running water, perhaps they've something to eat. How many times have we stopped for false hope, only to let our stomachs growl like wolves? I haven't the digits to count them, even when drunk." Wherever this not-Fade was, it claimed a civilization. What did she have to lose from investigating?
