IC Stuff:
Name: Shinjiro Aragaki
Alias/Nickname: Akihiko calls him Shinji. He's the only one allowed to.
Age: 18
Fandom: Persona 3
Appearance:
Strengths: Shinji has the “Potential”, meaning he is able to summon a Persona, a representation of his personality and psyche when under a great amount of stress or trauma. His Persona, Castor, appears as a knight on a black, skeletal, metal horse. Castor is extremely strong and can dish out huge amounts of damage when summoned. Perhaps because of Castor, Shinji is exceptionally strong and can wield large axes in battle with no problem.
Oddly enough, he's also a decent cook, although he tries to keep this fact secret.
Weaknesses: Shinji has a lot of trouble controlling Castor, which leads to him suppressing his Persona most of the time. When summoned, Castor has been known to attack friend and foe alike, with devastating results. This makes him tire quicker, and stay tired longer, and leads to him having trouble summoning his Persona, even when he really needs to. Because of this, he also tends to have trouble connecting with others, as he is afraid of the effects of his uncontrollable Persona.
History: Shinji has been an orphan ever since he could remember, growing up in the same orphanage as his childhood friend Akihiko Sanada and Akihiko's little sister, Miki. After the death of Miki in a fire at the orphanage, Shinji became more withdrawn from Akihiko, started skipping school, and distanced himself from his only friend.
Things all changed on one night, at midnight. The world became a sickly green, covered in festering darkness and blood, all the electronics around him stopped working, and everyone around him turned into a coffin. Worse still, there were strange, black monsters everywhere.
They called that the Dark Hour.
That was when he found out that he had the “Potential”, they called it. A thing called a Persona, sleeping inside of him. Powerful enough to defeat the monsters. Powerful enough to defeat anything. Dangerous, too.
One night, a high school student with long, red hair, named Mitsuru Kirijo, approached him, with what he thought was a gun. She told him about a group—The Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad—SEES.
Akihiko was there too.
What could go wrong?
Well, as it turns out, lots of things went wrong. One night, on a mission with SEES, he lost control of Castor, which lashed out at an innocent bystander—a woman—killing her before he could do anything to stop himself. Devastated with guilt, he left SEES the next day, despite the pleas of Mitsuru and Akihiko.
Personality: Shinji is a very cold person on the outside. He's tough, and foul-mouthed, and doesn't seem like the kind of guy you'd want to be friends with. He's the type of person who pushes others away with his tough guy exterior, and, because of this, doesn't have very many friends. He carries around a great deal of guilt for killing an innocent woman, though he will refuse to discuss the issue.
However, beneath the surface, he can actually be a very kind and sweet person. He cares a great deal for those he is closest to, and doesn't want to see anyone he cares about make mistakes that he has. He also has a soft spot in his heart for dogs and most other small, furry creatures. As mentioned above, he also loves cooking, though, since this contrasts with his “tough guy” exterior, he doesn't want anyone to know about it.
Sample post: Ruki perked up as he heard some noise in the woods. It was probably fiends, doing what they did best...it would be best for him not to worry about it. He took another deep drag from his cigarette and exhaled. No...no...it wasn't a fiend, fiends...fiends were different. It smelled familiar. He turned towards the sound of the noise, and saw an all-too-familiar, pink-haired rabbit girl standing below him.
“Takara!” he said, a smile instantly coming to his face. His whole body seemed to brighten up. Had he missed her this bad? Well, she and him always had gotten along very well. They would both hang out and chat whenever Ra and Nesu were busy whispering sweet nothings or giggling at each other like teenagers.
His first thought was to jump down from this tree, to hug her, to ask her how she had been – but the cold and rational part of his brain stopped that idea in its tracks. He knew why she was here. She was looking for Sekhmet. Sekhmet was long gone, although Ruki didn't know how he was going to break the news to her. He wasn't even sure of it...but everything told him that they would never see the wolf-demon again.
He flashed her a friendly smile as he lept down from his perch, landing in front of her, that same warm smile never having left his face, despite the less than ideal circumstances.
“There's no reason to be tense, Takara,” he said, as the smile left his face. The times had changed him, certainly, but he harbored no hatred for any of his former friends. The one he hated was Set, and maybe there was a twinge of hatred for Ra, for having fallen prey to the demon so quickly. “I have to warn you,” he said, his face stone-cold, “these woods...aren't too safe. Set could be lurking around, and I'm sure if he finds us it won't be pleasant.”
But she had fallen out of the sky. Ruki looked at Takara's wings. He looked at Takara. Obviously, the girl had flown here. Her wings were tiny, they probably had barely supported her, and that's why she had fallen. So she hadn't brought Nesu? No. He could smell Nesu's scent on her, but it was faint. Very faint. She wasn't coming? He thought they were best friends, like him and Ra had been. Maybe time had changed that.
“You...” he paused, trying to find the right words, “didn't bring Nesu with you, did you?” he said, trailing off. Set was much less of a threat without Nesu, although he still wanted to avoid running into the Omni if it was at all possible.
”So...” he said awkwardly, trying to start conversation back up, “what brings you to these woods?”
Anything else: In Persona 3, Personas are summoned with the use of an “Evoker”, a gun-shaped device that simulates the trauma of being shot in the head. Shinji does not have his Evoker on Eden, which makes summoning his Persona a great deal more difficult.
Shinji also has a huge crush on his childhood best friend, Akihiko Sanada, but he's not about to admit it to Akihiko, or anyone else.
