IC Stuff:
Name: Akihiko Sanada
Alias/Nickname: Aki, but only to Shinjiro. The Two-Fisted Protein Junkie
Age: 17. Third-year Japanese highschool student
Fandom: Persona 3
Appearance:
Strengths: In school Akihiko always got good marks and even outside of the classroom he is a fairly analytical person. He's a boxing champion and captain of his school team who uses various gloves and metal knuckles as weapons. Prior to arriving on Eden he could summon and control a manisfestation of his personality called a Persona, through use of a gun-like object called an Evoker. Akihiko's Persona is called Polydeuces and excels in lightning-based and physical attacks.
Without access to an Evoker, there may still be some scenarios in which Akihiko is able to summon his Persona such as during a crisis or after a period of intense concentration. However, he has always been strongest when using only his fists and has never been as reliant on his Persona when compared to others on his team.
Weaknesses: Akihiko can come off as rather aloof and detached to people that he doesn't know well but those closest to him know that he is a perfectly amiable guy who often actually becomes cripplingly shy around strangers, particularly girls. Despite that fact, Akihiko had an extremely devoted female fanbase in highschool, albeit one he was often completely oblivious to. He doesn't understand feelings very well, particularly those of a romantic nature and least of all his own.
In terms of combat, due to his background as a boxer Akihiko is poorly matched against any opponent that chooses to fight at a long range. He hates being out of action and when injured he is often too impatient to wait until he is fully recovered to return to fighting.
History: Akihiko grew up in the same orphanage as Shinjiro, along with his younger sister Miki who died in a building fire that destroyed the orphanage when they were both still just children. Her death left Akihiko devastated and he resolved to become stronger so that in the future he would be able to protect the people he cared about. He took up boxing so he could learn how to fight and joined S.E.E.S to try to eliminate the threat of the Shadows.
Shinjiro remained a close friend to him even after the death of Miki and together they were founding members of the investigative team S.E.E.S However, after an incident during an Operation in which Shinjiro lost control of his Persona and accidentally killed an innocent woman, the boys have distanced themselves from each other. When Shinjiro left S.E.E.S, Akihiko became more intent than ever on becoming stronger and fighting the Shadows and at the same time began to feel critical of his friend for choosing to leave the team when there were still people in need. Even so, he has kept in contact with Shinjiro and is deeply concerned over his well-being. Recently, he has been trying to talk Shinjiro into rejoining S.E.E.S.
Personality: Rarely one to joke around, Akihiko is serious-minded and generally cool-headed except in the face of a new challenge. He is extremely driven in his quest for strength, though unfortunately what drives him is misplaced guilt over the death of this sister. He is enthusiastic about the possibility of facing enemies even dangerous ones as long as he gets the opportunity to fight. Ultimately though, Akihiko is still having difficulty coping with his past and tries to avoid getting too attached to anyone so he won't have to go through the pain of losing someone he loves again.
Sample post: It was still early in the afternoon but the rain didn't seem like it was going to let up anytime soon. Akihiko was sitting on his bed in his room with the lights off and blinds closed so it had surprised him when Shinji invited himself over a couple of hours ago. He wondered if anyone else had even seen Shinji come in. He hadn't heard so much as a peep from the others in the dorm yet today.
Not that Shinji was being all that talkative either. At the moment Akihiko wasn't even sure if he was awake. He had a magazine that he'd brought over in front of him flipped open to a page that looked suspiciously like some sort of recipe but it seemed like he'd been on the same page for the last twenty minutes.
Akihiko was playing a handheld video game he'd borrowed from Junpei. He didn't usually understand the appeal of them but the weather at the moment was keeping him indoors. Still, he couldn't really focus on the game. Whenever he looked away from the screen for even just a few seconds his mind transported him back to the gym. I should be training he thought and felt guilt and frustration over the fact that he had spent the past two hours sitting on his bed uselessly. Somehow the fact that Shinji was falling asleep with his head resting on Akihiko's leg wasn't helping matters either. It made him feel both restless and content at the same time, exactly the sort of emotional contradiction that Shinji's presence had been causing him so much lately.
Finally unable to take the silence anymore in his current edgy state, he nudged Shinji with his elbow.
“Hey. You awake Shinji?”
Anything else: Lately, Akihiko has been feeling differently about hanging out with Shinjiro but he can't quite put his finger on why or what exactly has changed between them...
