IC Stuff:
Name: Loki Laufeyson
Alias/Nickname: Liesmith
Age: N/A
Fandom: The Avengers
Appearance:
Strengths: Loki is very skilled in magic. He's also very intelligent in contrast to most Asgardians and mortals. He is also very conniving. Chances are if you think he's failed, he's taken that into consideration and planned for it.
Weaknesses: Loki is a very, very bitter and distrustful creature. He often lets his anger and emotions cloud his judgement. Especially where his own ambition or Thor are concerned. He also cares quite a bit for his children.
History: Loki started life not as a Prince of Asgard but as a Prince of Jotunheim, the world of the Frost Giants. He was small by the Giant's Standards and so was left in the Temple as a babe when the Asgardians invaded. Odin, the Allfather came across the infant and brought it back to Asgard to raise as a Prince.
Odin had another son, a blonde Asgardian child named Thor. Thor never knew that Loki wasn't his real brother and probably never cared. The two were nigh inseparable. Odin often took them down to his treasure vault to tell him stories of the glory of Asgard. Loki kept being drawn to the glowing blue chest. It was one of these times that Odin told both the boys that 'they would both be kings'.
In his heart, Loki knew that the throne would fall to Thor. And that seemed to come true on the day of Thor's coronation. Loki tried not to let his jealousy show by enjoying some witty banter with his brother. But he had set events in motion to allow a few Jotun into Asgard to steal the chest. Naturally, he knew they would fail but it didn't matter in the end.
Thor led an ill-fated venture to Jotunheim with the intent to exterminate the giants. One of them touched Loki and he feared the limb would be frozen off. However, it had turned blue from the contact. It shook him to his core. When he touched the chest and questioned Odin what he was. Odin fell into his sleep, laving his youngest doubting and shaken.
Everything he had ever known was a lie.
With Odin asleep and Thor banished to Midgard, Loki took the throne of Asgard and began its descent as he descended further into madness himself. Lady Sif and the Warriors Three, tired of Loki's tyranny, war allowed by Heimdall to go to Midgard to locate Thor. The Thunderer returned to Midgard and engaged his brother in battle.
Then came the revelation. Loki told Thor that they were never brothers. Thor was too stubborn to accept that. Rather than let the Jotun Chest destroy Midgard and Jotunheim, Thor used the Hammer to destroy the Bifrost. In doing so, he failed to keep Loki pinned and contained. Loki dove off the ruined bifrost but rather than face the consequences and Odin's disappointment, he chose to fall into the still open portal.
Everyone started mourning the Lost Prince of Asgard in true Asgardian fashion. Thor went so far as to get Loki's horned helmet engraved into his vambraces.
-End Thor-
-Pre-Avengers-
But Loki was not dead. He came across a being called 'The Other' who led a race called the Chi'tari. He let slip something he had seen in Odin's treasury called The Tesseract which he believed to be on Midgard. He would be made king of Midgard in exchange for the Tesseract.
-Avengers-
Loki appeared on Midgard through a portal made with Tesseract energy. He took control of a few people there and weakened from the time in space and the transport, was led out of the SHEILD base in a transport. He had the Tesseract. His throne was secure.
However, he had attracted unwanted attention in the form of Nick Fury. Fury had contacted a select number of individuals to deal with just such a situation and began gathering them together.
Eventually, after a skirmish in Germany, Loki became the prisoner of the newly formed Avengers in a too easy capture. Loki began playing his word games to play with their heads. However, in the glass cage, he found some solace and curled up on the cot provided.
Personality: Loki switches between a playful trickster personalty to a deranged madman. He's not above stabbing people in the back or when their guard is down. He is insane but he is not…helpless because of it. He often grows frustrated at times, mostly because Thor refuses to see what Loki has accepted as the truth.
