It was cold.
That much he was used to. Given his nature as a Frost Giant, even a runt of one, the cold never bothered him that much. Which, in hindsight, should have given him pause earlier.
Loki opened one eye to take in his surroundings. There was snow. He hadn't somehow ended back on Jotunheim had he? Norns he hoped not. But...there was something different about this place. Jotunheim had magic yes but this place had so much more...potential about it.
Loki dragged himself out of the snowbank he was laying in and looked about the for the Tesseract staff. The mortal pets of his brother's had taken it but he had a faint sliver of hope that it had come with him to...wherever this place was. That hope soon dissipated when his search came up empty. He had nothing but the leather clothing upon his back.
He dusted some snow off his sleeve and looked about. There were lights off in the distance. ...Perhaps he should head that way. Maybe the people here could tell him where in the Nine Realms he was.

It was here. He had sensed a powerful presence in The Nexxramus. One of magical origin that he did not know. He knew the rest of The Pantheon. He knew their magic quite well. This one...was new and unfamiliar. The dread dragon Death flew over the desolate land of his prison, The Nexxramus. He snorted, ice breath visible, as he continued to scan the drifts of snow. He guessed it was a Sleepwalker. One of those new to Eden. There. There was a shape walking along in the snow toward one of the settlements. The figure appeared to be wearing some sort of leather clothing in black accented with green and gold. And he didn't seem to mind the cold. Interesting. He might just have to ...have a little talk with this Sleepwalker.

Loki felt a sinking feeling in his gut. He knew powerful magic when he felt it and that was...something on a grand scale that made even The Tesseract feel like a child's toy in comparison. But where had it come from?
Somehow, indication and instinct told him to look upwards against the dark sky and there it was.
A dragon. A big black dragon faintly glowing blue. He had only heard stories of the beasts. Never witnessed one up close.
He knew they were magical on their own and many of the spells he had never been able to complete often called for some element from them. Sadly, no dragons on Asgard or on any of the Nine Worlds. Well, Midgard had stories of them but he suspected they had fled elsewhere.
He realized that the creature was circling above him much like a vulture would. As if it were observing him. He'd had enough of that the past few days with the mortals and if it weren't for his plans to turn them against each other, he would have lashed out.
But even with his magic, he couldn't attack a dragon. Magic tended to just kind of...bounce off of them in all accounts he'd read.
Did it want something of him?
Because it seemed to be coming in for a landing.

The dragon landed delicately and folded his wings alongside his back. He approached the Dreamwalker calmly, the ice and snow cracking under his skeletal feet. "Greetings mortal. I don't personally greet visitors to The Nexxramus but you just couldn't go ignored." The dragon stated as he noted that the Dreamwalker stood confidently before him. A good sign. "I have a proposal for you, Dreamwalker. One that would greatly benefit your chances of survival on Eden. For I am Death, and while I have been exiled by my sisters and brothers, I still am a member of The Pantheon entrusted by The Precursers." He knew full well what he was doing but it was not an all together falsehood he was telling the Dreamwalker. "If you accept my proposal, know that there will be glory in your future."

Loki bristled at being referred to as 'mortal'. He was a god. How dare this...dragon refer to him as such. "I am Loki of Asgard. And I will have you remember that fact." He just about hissed in the dragon's direction.
Eden? So he was outside of the Nine Realms after all. Because it wasn't a place he had ever heard mentioned before today. But at least he had an idea where he was.
Dreamwalker? Now that didn't make any sense. Was he simply dreaming this entire thing? The snow under his feet felt real enough. The cold air emanating from the dragon's nostrils was real enough.
But this proposal Death had mentioned. He could at least hear the dragon out before he made any real conclusions. The beast hadn't decided to eat him after all.
"I'm listening." The Liesmith stated finally not having any other options at the moment. He didn't have the Tesseract with him or any other bargaining chips.
Oh well, at least Thor wasn't here.
Why did that thought sadden him?

Death practically smiled at the Dreamer's reaction to being referred to as mortal. He had forgotten how amusing they could be. But perhaps he could remember that if this one were to serve him. A small concession on his part. "Peace, Loki of Asgard." Asgard wasn't a place he knew of but by all logic it must be where Loki came from. Death would have to file that bit of logic away. "I am confined here within The Nexxramus. There is a magical barrier along the border made up of a fraction of my family's magic. I cannot pass that border. ...However, you face no such restriction. I would make you my Emissary and my General. And should you succeed at my side, you will be made King with me as your Patron God." He lifted a claw and then a black staff appeared in the air just before Loki. The jewel in the center was actually one of Death's scales. "That scale allows you to tap into my ow magic. I have noticed the other magic users serving me benefit from my nearness. You are powerful on your own yes but this will magnify your magic." He swished his tail in the snow. "So, Loki of Asgard, do we have a deal?"

Loki had only half-heartedly been listening to what the dragon had been saying. However, when Death mentioned the word 'King' Loki latched onto every word. The Allfather had promised he would be a King one day just as Thor would be King of Asgard. He had no desire to be king of Jotunheim, though being Laufey's first born, it was rightfully his by birth. And shining Asgard was meant for Thor.
The Allfather was known for his empty promises in regard to his adopted son. At least to said adopted son.
When the staff appeared, he was amazed how much it resembled the golden one the Other had given him to house the Tesseract. Save for the color and ...the power he felt from it far dwarfed that of even the Tesseract.
The one that his brother and the mortals had in their possession.
"So if I serve you as your General and your Emissary and we are victorious in what I assume will be an upcoming war...then I will be made King of this realm?" He approached the staff and closed his fingers around it.
"You have my allegiance, Death."

"Yes. Eden does not have a King now. But together, we will bring the world under our grasp." He near purred, seeing that he had the Dreamer's uncontested attention right now. The Dragon watched as pale fingers wound around the staff and then heard the Dreamer pledge his allegiance. "I knew I was not wrong about you, Loki of Asgard." Death placed his left foot outward and dropped his shoulder. "Come, let us depart for my Citadel. Even if you're not bothered by the chill in the air, temperatures drop to unbearable levels after nightfall."

Loki looked at the dragon's paw before him, able to see the pale bone below the black flesh in places. But again, it didn't bother him anymore than the cold around him did. He climbed up that offered limb and settled at the base of the black dragon's neck.
He held on as Death rose from his lowered state. He watched as those wings opened. The dragon took a short running start before launching himself into the air. Loki had never flown on the back of a dragon before but after that speech, he had a feeling Death wouldn't be so reckless with his passenger.
Loki soon saw what must be the Citadel fast approaching. It wasn't so much a building as it was a hollowed out mountain made of ice and snow. Death landed on a bridge of stone and issued a mighty roar from his throat. A set of ice doors, grand enough for the dragon to walk through, opened. Death strode forward and the doors closed behind him.
Too late to turn back now.
