Gargoyles
These noble creatures are one of Life’s first creations. They turn to stone during the day and become as flesh and blood at night. At one time, they were plentiful and spread out over Eden and had a truce with the younger races. The truce stated that in exchange for the gargoyles’ protection at night when the other races slept, the other races would protect them during the daylight and offer protection for the gargoyles’ eggs.
However, it was not to last. The younger races grew fearful of their nighttime protecters and started massacring the gargoyles as they slept. They became the subject of bogeymen stories to make children behave and malevolent specters that haunted the night.
The gargoyles, fearing for their clans’ survival, fled to the cliffs. There they make their home. And their they have relinquished their vow to protect the younger races of Eden. Now they live to survive and will attack those that come too close. A select few have been given amulets by Life that allow them to not turn to stone during the day. So that the eggs in the rookery cavern will be protected.
Gargoyles are a varied species as the dragons are. No two look alike. Some have two legs. Some have no legs and have the lower bodies of snakes. Some have two toes, while others have three. Some have a single wing finger, while others may have three. Some have horns. Some have beaks.
They are strong enough to leave clawmarks in solid stone. They use these to climb up their cliff roosts.
Gargoyle Beasts
A separate line, the gargoyle beast is termed a watchdog by the clans. They are incapable of speech and are varied as their care takers. They do not have wings. But they make up for it in ferocity.
Clan Structure
There is only ever 1 Clan Leader. Said Clan Leader usually has a Second in Command.
Hatchlings are raised by the entire clan. Since the adults would often not come back, this ensured there were no orphans in the clan.
The Clan Leaders have retained their titles since the Clans were forced to merge together for survival.
